Online Dating or Offline Dating? Which is Better?

Online dating and mobile dating apps are one of, if not the, main way to find a date these days.  But are they the best way to find a connection and form a meaningful relationship?

Datingadvice.com says online dating is WAY better than offline dating. Citing six different studies, author Hayley Matthews lists six ways online dating is better:

  1. Matchmaking algorithms can be more successful than your own matchmaking skills
  2. “Meeting” online encourages communication before anything physical
  3. Relationships started online are more open to diversity in age, social status, etc.
  4. Marriages that begin with an online relationship are less likely for separation or divorce
  5. Less complications in finding a partner
  6. Similarities between online-matched couples were linked to marital satisfaction

Even with studies, arguments and success stories for online dating, some people are still opposed to the idea – or at least a little hesitant.

“I tell singles that you really need to do both,” Julie Spira says in an article she wrote for Huffington Post. “It’s not one-way or the other. In reality, online dating, if done correctly, is just a method or service that will get you out there in the real world to meet someone offline and meet more people.”

Spira also has a list of Pros and Cons for both online and offline dating, some of which include:

Online Dating

Pro: It’s efficient and available 24-hours a day.
Con: It’s feels like a full-time job for many and you must be organized.

Pro: Many sites provide matching tools and send you emails of suggested matches to make it easier for you to view potential dates.
Con: Many singles limit their search criteria to height, zip code, or income and can miss the opportunity to meet a compatible match.

Offline Dating

Pro: You can determine if there’s chemistry in person sooner.
Con: You’re limited to your existing social circles or regular activities and will meet less people.

Pro: It’s pre-dating, without the pressure of wondering if you’re date’s profile is accurate.
Con: Singles may feel shy and not ask someone out for an official date.

What is truly needed is a way to bring the pros of both online and offline dating together, making it easier and more successful for everyone who is looking for love. That is where Encounter comes in.

Encounter is like your very own dating personal assistant – the app makes the annoying, stressful parts of dating easier. All you have to do is choose who you like, and either plan a date (with the help of Encounter and Yelp suggestions) or just show up.

Your dates can’t contact you unless you give permission within the app, so there’s no stress over giving out personal information or figuring out how to tell someone, in a nice way, that you never want to see them again.

Download Encounter for free today.
